Fashinnovation Worldwide Talks: the biggest fashion and innovation event in the world

Last week, Worldwide Talks took place in New York City, marking the 9th edition of the now iconic and industry-acclaimed fashion and innovation event hosted by Fashinnovation. A global platform born in 2018 that serves as a space where fashion professionals and technology experts can come together to discuss and promote sustainable and ethical practices in the fashion industry, but also discuss what the future of the fashion industry looks like. The annual event, typically hosted throughout New York City’s fashion week is a day dedicated to driving conversation, networking, and giving space to emerging brands through a series of guided panels and presentations by leading voices in the fashion, tech, and lifestyle industries as well as investors and influencers. By putting people first, founders Jordana and Marcelo Guimarães successfully merge the worlds of fashion and technology, each year providing guests with informative, inspiring, and stimulating takeaways.

This year’s edition brought to the stage the new era of fashion we are living in, with speakers taking deep dives into the topics of Generative and Internal AI, inbox commerce, new approaches toward sustainability and of course the concept of fashion as sustainable via innovation and technology, which welcomed Silvia Santato, Marketing Manager of Deda Stealth to the stage.

Incoming and continually increasing legislation from the EU including the Ecodesign Law and the Digital Product Passport in a mission to improve the traceability of a fashion brand’s products and as a result their environmental impact, means that fashion brands across Europe will soon have to adapt their workflow and implement new technology to be able to meet these new requirements. A particularly fluid and ”complex period for brands to manage” especially because ”it is not yet clear at the moment how or what information will be required and standardized” states Silvia. Furthermore, the Eco-design approach is a holistic way of thinking based on a full integration between the criteria: of reusability, durability, maintenance, and refurbishment, that should be implemented to create circular products and systems. Closely monitoring one’s supply chain, governing data, and improving the collaboration with, and between suppliers are the necessary pillars to reach these objectives and improve overall performance in terms of ESG and CSR.

During the Worldwide Talks, moderator Sarah Willersdorf, Boston Consulting Group’s Global Head of Luxury talked about the accelerating legislation and why it means brands will have to adapt technology and innovation in order to close the gap between the theory and practical application of these regulations. Where does it all need to begin and in what part of the value chain is technology crucial? As Silvia later discusses, “Eco-design requirements suggested by the new regulations make us think that the sourcing and procurement phase will be the most relevant to really apply a sustainable virtuous cycle in producing fashion products. Traceability and transparency are the enablers of this process. Technology can be the best ally especially because it can help simplify the complexity this new scenario is going to bring to the textile and fashion industry. Monitoring data, collecting reliable data, and preserving their unicity is certainly the aspect that affects the early stage of the Supply Chain and where technology can come in to support.”

How is Deda Stealth actively supporting brands across this new era?

Deda Stealth’s new and growing portfolio recently introduced both S-Connect, the supply chain collaboration platform that allows all the key players in the supply chain to efficiently advance procurement processes, production planning, and tracking, facilitating the exchange of data and information related to orders and their progress status and of course, Bsamply.

With Bsamply’s portal tool, brands can efficiently manage their suppliers and all the data, documentation and certifications related to both the company and the orders in a single system that can be accessed by the different departments of the brand. A system that not only works in favor of the brand, whose departments often use different systems to collect the same information from suppliers, but of the supplier who only has to upload all of its master data into a single portal which can then be accessed by the different brands they work with and the different departments of each brand.

The two products complete the Deda Stealth portfolio, providing fashion and luxury brands with the solutions they need to efficiently manage each step of their collection process and value chain, from the initial sourcing to the final production. Our marketing manager discusses these topics and the vital role technology can, and must play in this new era during her panel at Fashinnovation together with Milan Daniels, co-founder of Otrium, an online designer outlet, and Eddie Ingle, CEO of Repreved, branded recycled performance fiber.
